Oh lord, how to get into this book. (also pardon my typing and Grammar doing this on my phone)
first the narration as ever by sound booth is outstanding. I mean when aren’t they? The book is worth purchasing just to support their work. Of course that’s not the main talking point now is it in these reviews?
First I’ll address the pacing of let’s say the last 4 hours. it’s breakneck fast, to it’s detriment a little. less coordinated than the other books. it gets a little wonky with the power scaling and things kinda click a little forced. still fun to listen to but kinda shoves some suspension of disbelief to the side to wrap up a little faster.
Now about the conclusion to this book.
there are things that I must mention as a reminder to preface things.
there are hints since book 1 of what’s to come.
DESPITE what people claim shemar himself has stated this is not the total end of the series.
however there is decent credence to the displeasure surrounding how the book ends. shemar in his desire to not be predictable fumbled a good bit. he left a lot of planning and build up to the way side by forcing us to wonder if it was all for nothing. thankfully it’s very clear this series will probably have spin offs and most likely a continuation..
while the hints of what was to come exist I think the main issue is we as readers weren’t ready for them to happen especially the way they did. shemar could have easily added more content to expand on what happens to flesh out things even a bit more satisfactorily but in the end he dies give something of a conclusion.
I stand by that this is just the end of the “life reset” arc and a whole new plot is to come. Don’t think this is the end because, one more time, it’s been said by the writer it isn’t. more will come just now the paradigm has drastically shifted.
hope this helps
(the rest of the book is more of the greatness you’ve come to expect and I felt talking about the controversy would help one who’s on the fence make a more confident decision. also my thumb hurts lol)
