I’m a sucker for any agent-who-doesn’t-play-by-the-rules type of book, so this was definitely within my genre of choice and delivered solid entertainment value. There was plenty of action, though minimal depth or empathy built for any of the characters.
My chief complaint was that this was clearly written by a foreign author and insufficiently edited for authenticity with an abundance of words like “air-con” instead of “AC” and overuse of the word “smart” when talking about attire and architecture. If the protagonist is American, the setting is entirely in the US, and the dialog is between Americans, it should sound like it. The British word choices pulled me out of the story.
Also, the voice actor uses odd inflections, but when listening at 1.25x speed, it sounds better.
