Good, but not as good as the first two

Honestly, the story was good as ever minus the little ending issue. I’m kinda giving the ending a pass, since it looks like there will be more books, maybe? Narration was great, can never go wrong with Jeff Hays.

The biggest issue for me; are Vics lame jokes, the MC laughing and joking, and just random shenanigans. This is supposed to be a life or death fight to survive, with someones mind stuck in a game. Its really hard to take any of that seriously when half of the dialogue is lame jokes and puns. The subtle jokes are pretty good, but the one liners and chuckle parts are uninspired.

I also feel like we are losing focus on what the story is supposed to be about, I was hoping to see more settlement building and it looks like, some with the last book, and a lot with this one, we are moving away from that. To me the settlement building is what made this book unique and other similar books just felt like poor imitations.

So it was enjoyable, I can still see myself rereading/listening to the series again but I hope Shemer can be a little more creative and tone down the quantity of the jokes.
