I was amazed when I found out that this book was written by a teenager. While the story was a bit unfocused at times, and probably a bit too long, there seems to be real talent here and I will watch for other work by her.
Listening to this story brought back memories of my teenage years. It made me remember how angsty they were at times and I never had to deal with anything remotely similar to what Hunter and Jules went through.
I’m not going to rehash the story, enough reviewers have already done that and much better than I could. I want others to know that while this story definitely had its angst filled moments, it also had lots of good examples of teenagers being…well, teenagers.
Jules father was something else, and not in a good way. Unfortunately, I’m sure that people like him exist and this is why it’s important for young people, gay or straight, to have a safe place where they can find shelter, if needed, or maybe just someone to talk to.
This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Maxwell Zener. I loved his voice but I do think it sounded a tad bit old for the age of the characters. His phrasing was perfect and the vocal inflections he used were just right. I would definitely listen to more books by him if he narrates any more gay romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the narrator but my review is voluntary and not influenced by him or the author.
