Great series!
Listeners of this series may get a bit frustrated through the first half of this book. The game becomes tedious, Jason acts immature, and there is no conflict resolution.
But the second half is better, with much to offer. As with Way Of The Shaman and The Dark Herbalist, the real life story becomes predominant, as the game takes a back seat. The game really picks up later, however, and the finish makes for a great ending, with more to look forward to in Book 5.
The author, Travis Bagwell, begins with a statement about his social skills, and to his credit, provides explanation and prelude to the awkwardness of his main character, Jason, as well as the somewhat minimal presence of dialogue in this series. The narrative is tremendous though, and Bagwell is able to effectively delve into the minds of his various characters, like the AI, Alfred, does with the players.
Awaken Online remains in the top-tier of the LitRPG genre. Enjoy!
