I listened to the whole book, because I really wanted this story to improve.

Sometimes it’s good to just read a shoot’em up action story. This book has a classic gem at its core, but it really needed a few more rounds of editing before release. I could list a lot of things that I didn’t like, but here are the ones that stuck out to me the most:
* Captain Maddox is supposed to be a calm, unflappable captain whose flaws are revealed along the way, yet whose core strengths help him lead the tram to victory (pun intended). Yet every time a console beeps or someone says “Oh!” he is struck with fear. Oh, and he’s struck with uncontrollable feelings of lust every time he sees or talks to Meta.
* Dr Rich is supposed to be an analytical genius who also routinely says things like “I just have a feeling.”
* Meta’s character was just horrifically written and narrated. The narrator just doesn’t seem to be able to do a woman’s voice; fine – I can deal with that. But once it occurred to me that Meta was supposed to sound sultry instead of like a bumbling oaf, I was prone to laughing every time I heard her say anything.
