It sounds like Vaughn never read any syfy in order to keep up with the new syfy tech. He has future starship using hard drives for data storage for instance. DAA! We have been using solid state drives as storage for a decade now. Scientists are studding the use of crystals for data storage. There is not a single good syfy writer I’ve read recently who says hard drives. There was ‘many’ more foibles that lessened the book.
The writer is SO mellow dramatic, and the reader does nothing to help. Vaughn makes woman out as 1950 gossips. He writes the woman soldier like an argumentative sub-inelegant wife. Solders do not talk back all the time like he writes! If I was a woman I would be insulted. Then to top it off, the reader (David Stifel) makes the woman voices as wispy slutty sex hounds voices. I picture a drag queen for some of them.
The story is a very compelling story. It is worthy of better writing and narrating!.
