I’m a patient reader/listener. I prefer my horror atmospheric and slow to build, think M.R. James or H.P. Lovecraft. This is not slow to build, it’s glacial. Rather than filling that time building a rich tapestry, this is just mundane detail after mundane, everyday detail with very little progression in the story.
Incredibly for such a poor book, the narration is top notch. The narrator puts the type of effort into distinct voices for various characters I associate with the best in the business.
