Every moment involving the hippie God was excruciating to get through.
Watching Alex fail up over and over again is frustrating to say the least. “ohh, you’ve failed at everything, here is a city and now you are an avatar.” Meanwhile Jason has spent 2 books of succeeding impossible challenges to attain the same. I also struggle through most of Alex’s scenes.
What’s with the XP and leveling in this game? Jason is just over lvl 160 by the end of book 3. By this time he has single handedly taken control of a city, killed 500 high lvl PCs & NPCs with guerilla warfare and fended off/killed 1,000 troops. Then with just 2-3 more people he conquered two dungeons, killed 1,000s of high lvl PCs, defeated a 4 headed hydra/God, defeated a lvl 500 game master, a lvl 500 dragon and lead a defence against and killed thousands of lvl 150+ Lizard men. I can’t imagine anyone else has done nearly as much and yet he is consistently running into PCs well over lvl 100. Alex is over lvl 150 and I cannot believe he has done a fraction of what Jason has.
Aside from all of that I do really like this series and am looking forward to the 4th book, especially if it is more like the 1st and 2nd book. Most of this book felt like a filler episode.
