This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would like to listen to more. This book has its own story thread, so having not listened to the first in the series was not a issue. It does end with a lead into the next book, but not a cliffhanger.

Alana is captured by the Tsar’s men. Expecting captivity, she’s treated well and learns all she remembers of her life before becoming a rebel is a manifestation of magic.

Her brother is still with the rebels and she is concerned for his safety. People with the ability to do magic are disappearing without a trace. An uprising is at hand. Devon, an ex-Soldier wants to get Alana back, but he doesn’t realize what he’s headed into.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( David Stifel ). He gives each character a distinct voice and expression.

There is a background noise in the audio that is noticeable in moments of pause in the narration. It’s not too loud, but it is there.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing. Rated V on Audiobook Boom.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.
