So this is a Lovecraftian gamelit book, which is cool. There are a lot of skills in the game which are based around investigation or occult knowledge and stuff like that. Very nontraditional, MMO wise. They even have sanity checks with battles against horrors, based on your sanity stat. I liked that, but if you don’t have a person who can buff your sanity stat, it seems like a party would easily fail against a boss. So it starts out with the main character (who has pumped a good amount of his stats into luck) on the verge of a world-first discovery, which grants him an elemental magic at will. I think everything else in the game is rather steampunk without much vulgar magic at all. He then forms a party with others and they do things. This book really goes into the dangers of streaming in a world with rich people that will make and carry out threats in real life to get access to information that basically only one person knows in one of the worlds most popular VRMMORPGs. It was a good read/listen. I recommend it.
