Firefly is great… Black Ocean might be greater!

I never write reviews but felt this series warranted one. When first beginning this series, I found myself a little, or a lot, annoyed at the author. “How dare he rip off Firefly?”
I might not have felt that had he put the author’s notes at the beginning. This is not Firefly but an homage which gave Black Ocean a fantastic framework to build around. The similarities helped frame the visualization of the universe J.S. Morin created.
The addition of different species made the characters so vivid and interesting on a deeper level as they interacted with humans. Magic and wizards were easily the most complicated and intriguing aspect of these stories, and to think I almost didn’t buy this series because “Firefly with wizards” sounded cheesy as hell.
What can I say… I absolutely loved it!!!
