I’ve become attached to the Ryland family, as they’re the main characters in the series. They are easy to relate to since they’re just regular people; they weren’t preppers or military and didn’t have unlimited funds. In this second book of the series, the story continues and portrays the challenges of the first few weeks after the solar flares took out all the electronics and the grid. I was immediately drawn into the story and couldn’t put it down. The author does an excellent job creating realistic hurdles, bringing us into the story to experience the emotions and making us ponder what our own decisions would have been. The narrator tells the story in a way that transports us into the book, rather than being just a retelling.
