Back from their honeymoon, John Pickett and his now legal wife Julia, Lady Fieldhurst, John is still lamenting the fact that Julia is supporting them both. The feeling is worsened when he is summoned to the home of Lady Washbourn, who, like him, has married above her station and feels lost. She also thinks that her husband is trying to kill her. During a masquerade ball, a maid suddenly dies. It appears she may have drunk poison that was meant for Lady Washbourn. Pickett is assigned to investigate, and he continues even after the coroner rules natural causes.

Another great mystery and further development of our two mc’s, John and Julia. Their relationship continues to grow as do they, learning how to live with each other given their circumstances.

Joel Froomkin is a delight once again! Best narrator that could have been chosen for this great series!
