This is the first book in the Westwick Witches series. It is a standalone book [no cliffhanger ending].
Here, Cen lives in a treehouse in a small town with her family nearby. She has bought the local paper and her family runs the local inn. The town is dying so it was restructered to become a tourist town. Cen’s pre-rehearsal for her wedding at her family’s inn is not going well — the groom is MIA, her cranky Aunt Pearl is standing in for the groom, and there’s a dead body in the middle of all of it. And who is the dead body? Well, it’s a famous travel writer who has come to review the inn’s grand re-opening. This will certainly affect tourism. On top of that, Aunt Pearl’s wand is found by the body with blood on it so she becomes suspect #1. As Cen tries to hide the fact that from the new sexy Sheriff that her family consists of practicing witches, she has to clear Aunt Pearl.
I really enjoyed this cozy. It has a good mystery with some paranormal elements. Cen is a likeable main character. There were some humorous parts as Cen tries to keep Aunt Pearl under control while trying to hide their magical abilities from the sheriff. It is well written, light and entertaining. However, there were some mentions of prior events which made it feel as if this were not the first book in the series. Overall, I would recommend it and am looking forward to the next book.
I listened to this book — the narrator, Petrea Burchard, did a good job. She had various voices for the characters and a good overall light tone for the story.
