I like Erebus. It’s a good tale and accomplishes what it sets out to do: tell an apocalyptic story about ‘zombies’ at the edge of the world. The concept behind the infection I thought was quite unique, and has the potential to make this into a truly great series. It was unfortunate though that there was little character building throughout the novel. I just never felt a strong connection to any of the characters, and when they died it tended to not affect me.The characters seemed to have skills and abilities that manifested at convenient times, but narrative bumps like that usually don’t bother me. It did end on a cliffhanger, so I expect the author is working on a sequel, and I hope he ups his game and blows this first book completely off the ice.

Now, the narration by Mr. Pierce was a mixed bag. His voice is wonderfully soft and easy to listen to, but I felt like it lacked inflection and depth, almost like he wasn’t particularly enjoying himself.

Overall, I’d say it’s a solid 6/10.
