First, the narration: Kevin Pierce is amazing. He was an excellent choice to read the book to us. I have enjoyed books he has read because he has such a pleasant voice, great inflection and a true understanding of what he is reading.

The book was good even though the bad guys were real people and not zombies. I generally do not like it when the survivors have to fight normal people who have turned into criminals, or were already criminals and are taking advantage of the lack of authority to do evil deeds. It is discouraging to think that humans could be so savage. However, the author does not drag out the angst too long and the bad guys do not prevail. Also, the source of the disaster nor the scope are ever identified, which is somewhat unsettling. But the book does wrap up the story nicely. All in all it was an interesting book with interesting characters and I enjoyed the time I spent with Rock, his wife Lee and their little girl and teenage boy.
