This is actually a really enjoyable read. The characters grow and change, the adventures are fun, it’s written well (no complaints), and narrated well.
It’s easy to like Mort, the curmudgeonly old wizard on the run from the Convocation.
An example mission here would be the time they were paid far too much to deliver a sealed package to someone on a distant planet, didn’t follow orders and opened it up only to find out it was something they couldn’t really conscience trading, and then getting in too deep when posing as someone else to scout the buyer out.
The results of that particular mission were felt multiple times in subsequent missions. You’re not getting a monster of the week and a hard reset with this series.
