4.5 out of 5 stars
Sanctuary was a really enjoyable book. A.R. Shaw really knows how to write. She had me on the edge of my seat for more than half of this book. And the action never really stopped. I thought for sure that now that things were a little safer that the series would slow down a bit, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Things aren’t safe and they are only getting more and more dangerous. I felt like one of the characters of the book. Just when I thought the snow and cold were going to stop, it gets colder and snowier.
The overall premise of this book felt incredibly real. I think that Shaw really did a lot of thinking and some research into what would happen (or what has happened) when things really start to take a turn. The flashback scene and the scene with the woman in the road were easily some of the most memorable in this series. And I can tell that some research went into the method of transportation that is utilized later in the book.
The first book in the Surrender the Sun series easily took one of my top books of 2016, and I hope that Shaw releases book three on audiobook in 2017. I don’t know if I can wait any longer to find out exactly what happens to everyone that I’ve grown to love throughout books one and two.
Overall, a great book with a nasty cliffhanger at the end. Just be prepared for that, it caught me completely off guard. I can tell you this, A.R. Shaw is a name to watch out for when it comes to new and unique Post-Apocalyptic stories.
I will still round up to five stars, but this book lost a half star on the aggressive cliffhanger. I don’t like them but have come to expect them, especially in books that are part of a series. I’ve noticed lately that more and more books are series based with an unknown number of books in them. I usually like knowing this is book 2 of X before diving in, but my love of all things post-apocalypse has lead me down a path into the darkness of the unknown series length.
I received a free copy of this audiobook which has not affected my review at all.
