The first third or so of the book felt similar to the reading of The Martian – which I also loved but Dawn of Procyon took it beyond The Martian for me. The internal dialogue was entertaining but also heart breaking at times. The protagonist Landry is supervisor of maintenance at a space station meant to help protect Earth against attacks. He is a loner with only one friend and the friend asked him to take an unauthorized trip.

What happens next is one heck of an adventure and I applaud the author’s creativity, wit and imagination. The narrator, Travis Baldree, had perfect intonation for the story line and characters.

There are very few characters that were well developed but the main female is not very likable initially but I look for her character to grow and our opinion to change in coming books. There is a cliffhanger (largely because it is the first of a series) and I’m okay with that. I was provided this audio book free for my honest review but this review was easy – it is not that often that I am given a free book that I enjoyed this much.
