Great epic story that spans 6-7 years. A happy loving seafaring family is raided by pirates and sold as slaves. John, the youngest son manages to escape and the story is his attempt at rescuing his family, especially his younger sister. He’s smart, learns to fight, and to abhor slavery and it’s perpetrators. He makes two loyal friends and the three set out on a naval ship after John gets a note from his sister. John is a hard character to summarize. I felt for him at first, then I thought he was a hero of sorts. By the end I’m not so sure how I feel about him. But there’s no denying the sadness that he and his family endures.
The story is a good one. But I did not like the way the date changed almost chapter to chapter. I had to learn everything in disconnected pieces. With a storyline that good it should have flowed from the past to the CLIFFHANGER ending as a continual timeline.
First time I’ve heard Travis Baldree and he was superb!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Two Thumbs Up for the great story!
