Lady Fieldhurst is in an unhappy marriage. But she certainly didn’t want her husband dead. John Pickett is a new addition to Bow Street and needs to solve this murder and add a feather to his cap. But he’s smitten with the most likely suspect. This mystery pulled me into the Regency era and held me captive. The secondary characters are thoughtfully written and the dialogue and inner thoughts had me laughing out loud in the doctor’s office. I absolutely adore South’s writing and will definitely be following this series.

The narration was excellent, deadpan where it needed to be and humorous and lively when necessary. I hope he will be used for the rest of the series.
