The Space Team series of books have two layers. The first layer is a silly, tongue-in-cheek, light, unlikely space romp. A petty criminal from Earth is mistaken for an infamous cannibal by aliens and is kidnapped and taken into space. He ends up working with a group of misfits (all of different alien species) and together they save the Universe.
Now that alone would make this an enjoyable listen but then there’s the second layer.
This layer develops more and more as the series progresses (without taking anything away from the 1st layer). This layer is about friendship and loyalty and loss and family. It’s about having the courage to do the right thing no matter the cost.
It’s what you expect from heroes isn’t it?
Add to that the perfection that is Phil Thron’s narration and you have a series you really don’t want to miss.
Listen to the first one and then keep going because they do get better and better.
You should also read the Dan Deadman books in between because they tie in with Space Team series (but are also stand alone books).
