I wanted to save this listen for when I had unfettered time but like a kid a week before Christmas, I kept shaking the box and pulling on the tape until I couldn’t stand it. I put work aside and let this book just take over my day. Totally worth it.
This is the third or fourth book in the Roak – Bounty Hunter Series (I lost track) and each book builds on the last. This listen was intense with some serious ‘that-did-not-just-happen’ moments. I’ll admit, I screamed a few times.
I love that Roak is a reluctant captain with a seriously special crew. Yellow Eyes was a constant source of amusement and warmth and his struggle not to be a racist made me laugh out loud!! That was some excellent storytelling!!
The narrator is one of my absolute faves!! The character Roak has an edge to him and that comes across in the narration. Not only does the narrator keep Roak hard, but he made Yellow Eyes sweet(ish), gave Rec (Roak’s ‘sister’) her edge, and put the sass in Hessa the AI.
This was a complete story but the book ended with me bolting straight up and completely excited about what happens next!!
